Russian initiative on a European Security Treaty

March 2, 2009 the meeting concerning the Russian initiative on the European Security Treaty took place in PIR Center. Nowadays nine key points are proposed within the framework of the promoted idea.

Among the elements of the future European Security Treaty are:

- to confirm the base principals of security and international relations in the European Atlantic area;

- to confirm the inadmissibility of use or a threat of use of force in the international relations;

- consolidation of equality of approaches to a conflict prevention and peaceful settlement of a conflict;

- equal security safeguards;

- a new quality of interaction in the field of WMD proliferation, terrorism, narcotrafficking and other kinds of cross-border crime.

“The idea of creation of a new system of European security is evident. The most reasonable is to implement this idea through the treaty”, – noted PIR Center President Vladimir Orlov during the meeting.
